Even If It’s Just One
Because one person is never just one person.
I keep thinking about the number one.
One person. One conversation. One moment when somebody hears something they really needed to hear.
It’s easy to look around at the world and feel like what we do only matters if a whole lot of people notice.
But I don’t think that’s how encouragement works.
It doesn’t have to be loud
Sometimes it looks like praying for someone while you’re driving to work. Sometimes it’s a conversation over coffee, a text you almost didn’t send, or sitting with somebody who doesn’t need advice nearly as much as they need company.
The Bible tells us, in
1Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV), “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
Not impress one another. Not gather an audience. Encourage one another.
I don’t need a spotlight
I don’t want this little corner of the internet to become a stage.
I want it to be a place where we can talk about Jesus, ask questions, share what we’re learning, and remind each other that we’re not walking through life alone.
If one person reads something here and feels a little less alone, that matters.
If one person finds the courage to pray again, that matters.
If one person feels welcome enough to stay and listen, that matters, too.
What if nobody ever tells me?
That’s something I’ve thought about. What if I never know whether these words helped anyone?
I hope I can be content with that, too. Encouragement isn’t only worthwhile when we get to see the results.
Maybe something we say stays with someone long after we’ve forgotten saying it.
Maybe a small kindness becomes part of a story we’ll never hear.
So, even if it’s just one…
I want to keep a chair ready.
Not because I’m counting how many people fill it. Because each person matters.
Jesus is the reason for the table. I’m just saving you a seat.
