Have you ever wanted company but absolutely did not want to socialize?
Because, same.
I’m talking about those days when the thought of making conversation, matching someone’s energy, or even trying to form a coherent sentence feels like an Olympic event you definitely did not train for.
But being alone doesn’t sound any better.
Some of my favorite moments with friends haven’t involved deep conversations, elaborate plans, or even leaving the couch.
Sometimes it’s just sitting in the same room, completely absorbed in our own little worlds.
One of us finds a ridiculous TikTok and sends it to the other person. Who is literally sitting three feet away.
There’s a snort, a laugh, maybe a very affectionate “You’re so dumb,” and then we go right back to doing absolutely nothing together.
And somehow, it’s perfect.
Because there’s something incredibly comforting about being around someone who doesn’t need anything from you in that moment.
You don’t have to be entertaining. You don’t have to be interesting. You don’t have to have something profound to say.
You can just be.
And I started thinking about how much we need spaces like that.
Especially when it comes to faith.
Sometimes we have beautiful testimonies to share. Sometimes we have questions we’re afraid to ask. Sometimes we want to shout from the rooftops about what God has done in our lives.
And sometimes?
Sometimes we’re tired.
Sometimes we’re struggling.
Sometimes we open our Bibles and don’t even know where to start.
Sometimes we hear a worship song that brings us to tears, and we can’t quite explain why.
And sometimes we’re doing okay, but we’d really just like to know we’re not doing this whole life thing alone.
That’s what I hope There Is Room at the Table can become.
Not a place where I stand up and tell you everything you should be doing. Goodness knows I’m still figuring out what I’m supposed to be doing half the time.
I’m not here because I’ve mastered this walk with Christ.
I’m here because I haven’t.
Because I believe God is still working on me. Because I believe our stories matter. And because I believe He can use our experiences to encourage people we may never even meet.
Maybe I’ll share something that makes you laugh.
Maybe I’ll share a Scripture that has been weighing on my heart.
Maybe I’ll post a picture with three words underneath it because that’s all I’ve got that day.
And maybe you’ll have something to share, too.
I hope you do.
I hope this becomes a place where we can encourage one another, learn from one another, pray for one another, and celebrate what God is doing in our lives.
But I also want you to know something.
You don’t have to contribute something to deserve a place here.
You don’t have to comment.
You don’t have to introduce yourself.
You don’t have to tell your story before you’re ready.
You don’t even have to pretend you’re having a good day.
You can just show up.
Read something. Listen to a song. Laugh at something ridiculous. Sit with a Scripture for a little while.
Or just know that somewhere out there, someone else is learning how to navigate this messy, beautiful, occasionally exhausting life while trying to keep their eyes on Jesus.
And maybe that’s enough for today.
So, welcome.
The coffee might be cold. The conversation might take a few unexpected turns. And there’s a pretty good chance I’ll lose my train of thought at least once.
But the door is open.
The chairs don’t match.
And nobody’s going to make you participate in an icebreaker.
There is room at the table.
And if all you can manage today is to sit here for a while?
I’d really love the company.
